Finding Purpose in Helping Others Move Forward
When I reflect on my journey, one thing stands out: I’ve always found meaning in helping others take their next step — especially young adults navigating life transitions like education, employment, identity, and healing.
Each step along the way has shaped the way I coach today. Here’s a look at some key moments that continue to influence how I show up for my clients.
Supporting a Student in Finding Her Spark
One of my earliest roles was as a youth mentor in a local high school. I worked with a student who felt uncertain about her future. Through our conversations, she shared her love for hairdressing — something she’d never seriously considered as a career.
We explored this path together by:
- Researching local training programs
- Identifying her strengths
- Building her confidence to take action
This experience reminded me that sometimes, all someone needs is the right guidance and belief to begin.
Mentoring Youth Through Faith and Life
Next, I stepped into a mentoring role with youth and young adults at my local church. These were honest, raw conversations — about identity, peer pressure, bullying, and how faith intersects with real life.
We created spaces where young people could be seen, heard, and valued. I saw how powerful it is to walk alongside someone as they face challenges and grow into who they’re meant to be.
From Interviews to Job Offers
As time went on, I started helping young people prepare for work. This included:
- Writing resumes and cover letters
- Practising interview skills
- Coaching them to feel confident and capable
Seeing clients land their first job — and step into independence — never got old. It’s what led me to explore career coaching more seriously.
Helping Students Transition Into University Life
At university, I became a mentor supporting students in one of the biggest life transitions they’ll face. I helped them:
- Adjust to new environments
- Manage study loads
- Navigate self-doubt and overwhelm
That time reaffirmed just how important it is to have someone in your corner when stepping into the unknown.
Supporting Health, Rehab & Disability Goals
With a Diploma and Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, I supported people in therapy and rehabilitation. I worked alongside health professionals to help clients progress toward physical, emotional, and cognitive goals.
This naturally led to disability support work, where I helped young people move toward education, employment, and greater independence. I drew on everything I’d learned — from job coaching to mentoring — to provide tailored support.
Why I Share This With You
These aren’t just career highlights — they’re the heart behind everything I do.
They taught me that growth isn’t linear, and that often, just having someone walk with you can make the next step feel possible.
That’s why I became a Next Steps Coach — to offer that kind of support to others.
Are You Figuring Out Your Next Step?
Whether you’re:
- A young adult unsure of where to go next
- A parent supporting a child in transition
- Or someone facing barriers to employment or education
I’d love to support you.
Let’s take that next step together.
